While this isn't the preferred way to block registrations, it has it's uses and is effective.
Registrations are blocked in the following order...
- If the IP Address is the same as the HOSTNAME (must enable the option to activate)
Example: If the IP Adress is 184.108.40.206 and the hostname is 220.127.116.11 the user will not be able to register.
- If the HOSTNAME supplied by the IP Address is in the list of blocked hostnames.
Example: If the hostname is host12.server3.vpn999.com and the word server is in the banned hostnames the user will not be able to register.
- If the IP Address OWNER is in the list of blocked hostnames. (must enable Whois option to activate)
Example: If the IP Adress is 18.104.22.168 it will return a hostname of host7.server5.vpn999.com
BUT if you look up the IP Address, the actual OWNER of the IP is SINGLEHOP
If SINGLEHOP is in the banned hostname list, ANY user coming from SINGLEHOP will not be able to register.
